At New Interactive Solutions we can help you transition technologies and help you maximize the usage of your current technology.
Your current technology may not be completely "out of date." In-fact just like in the automotive industry, an older generation may still perform its function extremely well. However, the new generation offers more features new advances that sometimes weren't even thought about in the previous model.
Citrix XenDesktop
When it comes to virtualizing your desktops it seems the question really isn't one of "if” but "when” When most TCO studies show savings in the 30 to 40% range over traditional PC’s or “distributed processing” it’s just too much savings to pass up. Therefore, the most important question is really "how" to accomplish desktop virtualization. When it comes to virtualizing a desktop there are certain questions that have to be asked up front and for sure application virtualization is NOT the same as desktop virtualization. At NIS we’ve been working with THE LEADING virtualization technologies since 2000 and we'll be glad to explain the how and why when it comes to "application" or "desktop" virtualization. There are drastic differences between the two and a reason to do both. However, the resource issues are completely different and both require a different back end. And because you most likely don’t have money to burn why do it twice! At NIS, we have experts that can assist in Proof Of Concepts, demo software and “reality” when it comes to resource requirements.
We’ve partnered with Citrix, the Worlds # 1 leader in virtualization technologies and so offer an end to end application delivery solution as opposed to a “band aid” approach. XenDesktop takes the right approach to desktop virtualization by separating the application from the OS (XP Pro, Vista or Windows 7) so allows for more savings in regards to maintenance and provides the ultimate reliability you’ve been searching for.
Server Virtualization
Citrix XenServer™ is server virtualization that makes datacenters more agile and efficient through faster application delivery, higher levels of availability and improved utilization of IT resources.
XenServer delivers the advanced features required by mission critical workloads without sacrificing the ease-of-use necessary for wide-scale deployments. The unique provisioning technology of XenServer can rapidly deliver workloads across virtual or physical servers making it the ideal virtualization platform for every server in the enterprise.
And the big news today is that Citrix XenServer Enterprise is free. And there are no "gotchas". Today you can download and install any # of servers for free and Citrix provides you their Enterprise product absolutely free. Although you can purchase other High Availability packages (XenServer Essentials), you can virtualize your servers for free. However, we do recommend you pilot a server before production and our Citrix SE's are willing to discuss the specs needed and the resource requirements you might run into if your headed in that direction. Like desktop virtualization, it’s probably not an "if" issue but a "when" issue. In addition, if you're going to "delivery" applications rather than "deploy" as most IT department are starting to do, you can run MANY more users on XenServer than VMware for example. Tests have shown that the performance gains under XenServer can be up to 40 or even 50%. Why virtualize and run 100 users per sever when you can run 150! With XenServer it' is not just free but THE best decision you can make when it comes to server virtualization.
High Availability
NIS works with the leaders in High Availability like Citrix, HP, Stratus and Marathon, to ensure you have five 9's in "reality" not just on "paper".
NIS employs various technologies to assist in providing you High Availably to your applications which is the real reason your network exists. The question is as follows: "when does it NOT matter that during regular business hours your network is down?" The answer is: "When your applications are not available." The fact is no one really cares how "available" the network is but rather how available their applications are. In the age of virtualization, HA is a hot topic but is often sold as a stop gap to poor project management or other inefficiencies. At NIS we link HA to your applications and not just your network. Once again, NIS is concerned about access to your "applications" as it’s the reason that IT exists. Highly Available solutions are no longer an option for many companies today and NIS is prepared to assist those that need to KNOW they will not experience down time with dependable, tested and cost effective solutions.
